Top Rated Cocktails Made with Bourbon

An American whiskey made in Kentucky from at least 51% corn, it's sweeter and sometimes spicier than Scotch or Irish whisk(e)y.

History

The origin of Bourbon is lost in the mists of time but the art of distilling was likely brought to Kentucky by Scottish and Scots-Irish immigrants in the 18th century.  Bourbon, along with all other alcoholic beverages was outlawed in America during Prohibition but after those dark days ended it became protected by Federal Law and can only legally be produced in the United States.  Sadly Prohibition resulted in the long absence of a working distillary in Bourbon County for over 90 years but a small outfit has recently opened its doors.

Usage

A mainstay of classic cocktails such as the Old Fashioned & Mint Julep that can be used as a substitute for Rye Whiskey in drinks such as the Manhatten.
